Safety & Sourcing

Safety Disclaimer

Here at Felis Lux, we create our products to be as safe and indestructible as possible. We use veg-tanned leather, pheasant feathers, canvas, and rabbit fur. These materials are inherently durable and long lasting. However, we make products for felines - predators and obligate carnivores with genetic traits primed to do some real damage.

In using our products to interact with your feline friends, please use your best judgment around safety practices and supervised play. You know your cats and their idiosyncrasies. Our products are not food items and as such, they are not intended for ingestion.

In using Felis Lux products, you accept full responsibility for the safety of your felines.

Sourcing

Felis Lux strives to be as kind to our earth as we are to our cats. We use domestic sourcing whenever we can, and we prioritize partnering with small businesses that prioritize ethical and sustainable practices:

Our rabbit fur is sourced from a small rabbit farm in Oregon, where they are humanely raised for meat.

The feathers we use are sourced from a company in California that prioritizes using byproducts of the meat industry, and works with aviaries to collect feathers from natural molting.

Our leather is veg-tanned in Pennsylvania, using cow hides destined for the landfill. Veg-tanning is an eco-friendly, old world process that involves soaking animal hides in oak tannins and other plant matter for 30-60 days. Veg-tanned leather is initially a bit stiffer than other leathers, but it breaks in beautifully and lasts much longer.
