Keeping Collars Beautiful: A Simple Guide to Leather Conditioning

Keeping Collars Beautiful: A Simple Guide to Leather Conditioning

Leather is a natural material, and like skin, it needs occasional moisture to stay supple. Without it, leather can dry out, stiffen, and crack over time. A few minutes of care every couple of months goes a long way in keeping your cat's collar looking and feeling great.

What You'll Need

  • Your leather cat collar

  • A soft, clean cloth (or your hands!)

  • Our leather conditioner

How to Condition Your Collar

  1. Clean first.
Wipe down the collar with a dry or slightly damp cloth to remove surface dirt. Let it dry completely.
  2. Apply the conditioner.
Using your fingers or a cloth, apply a small amount of conditioner to the leather — a little goes a long way!
  3. Work it in.
Rub the conditioner into the leather in small circular motions, paying attention to any creases or stitched areas.
  4. Let it absorb.
Set the collar aside for a few minutes while the leather soaks it in.
  5. Buff off any excess.
Use a clean cloth to remove any remaining residue.

How Often? Every 1–3 months is plenty for most collars, or a bit more frequently if the collar sees a lot of moisture.
